The Lost List Of People Who Should Not Vote
Look, it’s not going to be a popular opinion, but I don’t think everyone should vote. Why? Because most people are idiots. Ask the average person what each branch of government actually does and they don’t know. I’m also a half an idiot and never know the people on the ballot for local government and those are the people you should know! Those are the people who might actually be able to bring change/good to your regular life!
I can’t name half the presidents, let alone what they did. And I’m a fairly educated person.
It would never happen, but honestly, I think there should be a test in order to be a voter. It’s a pass/fail test, you can take it as many times as you want (there would be free classes to prepare you and for those with reading disabilities there would be accommodations). You would have to know how the branches of government work, what the candidates have done (actions, not what they say they are going to do) and what policies they are trying to implement.
We are not educated voters, for the most part… or should I say, accurately educated. People vote on emotion or their hatred for the other person more than facts. This is why our country is a mess. Because the people (all of us, both sides) are getting collectively dumber. Both parties would like us to be dumb, because then we’re easily manipulated.
Even educated people are morons. Just because you went to college doesn’t mean you’re smart. Colleges need to be de-throned (an argument for another time). The internet leveled the education playing field. You don’t have to be rich anymore to be educated. I firmly believe democracy can flourish, but a government for the people, by the people, can only succeed if the people are aware.
Anyway, there’s that rant.
But this IS a good idea… because how many people do you run into in your life that should not be making important decisions?
Let’s start with the basics.
Flat earthers. These people are real and reject logic. They are as insane as they are imbecilic. I don’t want these people voting! Stop encouraging everyone to vote! These people should stay home and smoke meth or whatever they do to keep themselves brainless.
Are you guys aware there’s a whole group of people who think Bush/Hilary/Obama and a slew of other politicians are lizard people? This is a real conspiracy that people believe. They think lizard people are in disguise and running the country. Um… what??? What’s even stranger is there are a lot of people who claim to see “glimpses” of their true form. Okay… and let’s, for argument’s sake, say the lizard people are real and living among us. Okay, sure. What is their end game? If a lizard person is so intelligent, why have they not cured COVID-19, brought civil unity, ended wars, fix the economy. I’ll vote a lizard person in if I thought they’d do good. I have no prejudices against interdimensional beings. Christ, I mean Jesus Christ himself was interdimensional.
Then, there’s people who believe Jenny McCarthy about autism over science. Or people who say EDM is their favorite type of music. People who think “red vines” taste good (seriously, what is wrong with you). And those mother fuckers who don’t use their signals when changing lanes!
Okay, okay… obviously, now I’m exaggerating a bit for comedic effect. But in all seriousness, I really do think smarter voters would result in smarter candidates. Occupations from real estate agents to doctors have to take refresher courses. Corporations make you go through harassment seminars annually. Why are we not applying this to how the fuck our government works? There should be a list of things you have to know before you can vote.
Please, I beg you, do not leave any comments in a political leaning, left or right. I don’t see this as a blue or red issue. It’s an overall issue. A fixable one, at that. Social media is creating more divide and misinformation than ever. There needs to be a push against that. Or this country is over. And I don’t want this country to be over. And I don’t want to be embarrassed to be an American either. I like it here.
Sure, you can flaunt an “I voted” sticker like is a medal of honor that you somehow earned, and pat yourself on the back… you’re a winner and hero. But if someone didn’t vote, then maybe they shouldn’t? For some people (if not most people), voting may actually be irresponsible if they don’t know what is going on or how things work.
